BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WATE) – A black bear crashed through the ceiling of a house in Kentucky on Wednesday, almost falling on a woman's head before landing in the kitchen, according to a family member.
A game warden with Kentucky Fish and Wildlife responded to the home in Bell County early on Wednesday morning, according to a Facebook post from the department's law enforcement division.
"Upon arrival, the bear was located sitting on the stove in the kitchen," the post read.
The warden and a local sheriff helped to chase the bear out of the house, according to the department. Nexstar's WATE also spoke with the daughter of the residents, who claimed her family had also assisted with the bear's departure.
"It almost fell on my mom when it came through the ceiling," the daughter claimed. "They tried to open the kitchen door but the bear would come at them when they did so. My uncle managed to get the door open after about 2 hours and it finally left. The reason it stayed so long was because everyone was waiting on a guy with a tranquilizer but it left before he arrived.
"Everyone is OK, just shook up," she added.
Officials later said the bear had climbed a ladder and entered into the home's attic through an opening, after which it fell onto the floor below.
